In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) is a Medi-Cal-funded program in California that provides in-home care to eligible aged, blind, or disabled individuals so they can remain safely in their own homes instead of moving to out-of-home care such as nursing homes or assisted living. IHSS is designed to replace or supplement out-of-home care by paying for personal and domestic assistance, paramedical tasks, and protective supervision. It is administered county by county under the California Department of Social Services, using state and federal Medi-Cal funds.
